Having a bad day? Currently my family and I are dealing with my daughter’s recent serious injury. Yesterday, my over-priced car broke down and had to be towed. I waited over 2 hours for a tow truck when it suddenly started to rain on me.

I am often asked if I believe in "Natural Born Leaders" and my answer is always no. I do however believe that some people are born with the characteristics to become leaders...great leaders.

Now, on the surface this statement will draw controversy. But in my opinion, you are either a leader or you're not. I will (loosely) quote John C. Maxwell: "If you think you're leading, look behind you. If no-one is following, then you're just out for a walk."

As leaders, one of the primary goals is to influence behaviors. It is the leader’s responsibility to ensure that everyone in their care is performing to the organization’s expectations. I say everyone in their care because that is how it should be. You should care for those you intend to lead just as you would care for your children. And just as with your children we use something called antecedents as a tool to influence behaviors.
